THE ROLE OF MIND MAPPING IN PROMOTING READING COMPREHENSION

Abstract

This article explores the role of mind mapping in promoting reading comprehension among learners. Reading comprehension is one of the most essential skills in education because it allows students not only to read texts but also to understand, analyze, interpret, and remember information. However, many students experience difficulties when dealing with long and complex texts, especially in academic settings. In this regard, mind mapping appears to be an effective and engaging strategy that helps learners organize ideas visually, connect concepts, and improve understanding. The article discusses the definition of mind mapping, its main features, and its connection with reading comprehension. It also analyzes how mind maps support vocabulary development, memory, critical thinking, and learner motivation. In addition, the paper highlights the practical benefits of using mind maps before, during, and after reading activities. Examples from classroom practice and educational research are included to show that mind mapping can make reading more interactive and meaningful.
